When Quartz driven LED digital watches arrived at the beginning of the 1970s, American and Swiss manufacturers were the first to harness the new technology.



In 1971 the Hamilton watch company in the USA started producing the pulsar, the world’s first wristwatch with no moving parts.

Limited editions 18 carat gold Pulsar can now fetch anything up to $3000.

A year later, Longines released its first L ED model and by the mid-1970s most Swiss watch makers had began to introduce a digital range of watches.



  Early digitals watchmaker included Omega with the 1601, 1602, and 1603 model from their range.

And citizens Quartz, with the Crystron L ED, watch.
Omegas 1601 can fetch upwards of $550 in today’s current market.

But ever lowering cost of technology meant that all liquid crystal display LCD digitals from the far East soon flooded the markets.

  Vintage Digital Watches by the end of the decade, most quality watchmakers in Switzerland had reverted back to making traditional watches.


The digital market for watch collecting is not widely known are understood, pieces can still be found for sale from a range of venues from car boot sales yard sales and collectors fairs to vintage clothing and accessory shops.

But increasing interest from both fashion trends and hard-core watch collectors is starting to see sharp increase in desirability and re sale prices.
