The Paris based designer lea stein started her design company in 1957 and by 1965 was making jewellery from rhodoid a form of cellulose acetate used to make spectacle frames.

By the end of the 1960s stein had started to design jewellery from the same material using a lamination process she had invented which allowed her to create layers of colour, texture and pattern from which she had become famous, consequently, no two lea stein pieces are a like





they are all signed. lea stein vintage period lasted from 1969 to 1981 during this period the company grew to employ more than 50, but competition from Asia forced it to close.




An American dealer bought a large number of pieces and began selling them and making them popular with collectors.



Vintage pieces include rabbit, Rhino, Hunter, crocodile, Bassett town, poodle, tomcat, Felix, Carmen, Bahrain, skateboard boy, tennis woman, and stretch bracelets,

Stein returned to designing in 1988, making one are two new pieces a year as well as recreating vintage designs. For example, the Fox the most popular piece in the vintage pieces still made today.



Collected should be aware that it is very hard to tell new and vintage pieces apart and they are all signed in the same way  Lea stein-Paris under pin backing.




New designs included Al, sleeping cat, standing cat, daughters and Rick the dog Mrs ladybug was introduced in 1988 new Fox heads in 2000 Penguin in 2001 and 2002 saw a new cat, Sacha.
